Rant: Everyone hypes cash back apps but nobody talks about the fine print

I signed up for three of those apps last month thinking I'd stack some savings on groceries. Turns out half the offers expire in like 2 days or require you to buy some weird specific brand nobody stocks. Spent an hour scanning receipts and got maybe $1.50 back total. Anyone else find these apps more hassle than they are worth?

Those three apps got me too. Had one that promised 5% back on bread but it only worked if you bought the store's organic bakery loaf for like seven bucks. @the_jordan nailed it though - the whole thing is a data grab disguised as savings. I spent more time sorting through expiring offers than I saved on my total bill. Eventually I just started checking the store circular before I go and using their digital coupons instead. Way fewer steps, way more actual money back.

Honestly just delete those apps and save yourself the headache. Tbh they work best if you're already buying that weird niche brand every week, not if you're just trying to save on eggs and milk. Ngl I tried the same thing and got like three bucks after a month of scanning, it's literally not worth the time. The fine print is basically designed to make you feel like you're making progress while they collect your data. I'd rather just clip coupons from the Sunday paper or check the store app for deals, way less annoying.
