Question about those "brand new" air fryer deals on Facebook Marketplace

Found an air fryer listed as "brand new in box" for $25. Seller said it was a gift they didn't want. Met them at a gas station in Nashua. Box looked clean, no dents. Got it home, opened it up, and there were grease stains inside the basket. Gave it a good scrub with soap and hot water. Now I'm wondering if it's actually fine to use or if I should toss it. Do you guys think these "new" deals are usually returns or floor models? Has anyone else run into this and just kept using the thing anyway?

Wait did you hear what happened to my friend Sarah a few years ago? She dropped a whole sleeve of raw chicken thighs on her kitchen floor, picked em up and rinsed them off, then cooked them anyway. She figured the heat would kill anything bad and she didn't want to waste the meat. Turned out fine, she didn't get sick or anything but her husband still gives her grief about it every time she cooks chicken lol. Honestly I think she was just lucky because the floor was relatively clean and she washed it well. But yeah your situation sounds way less gross than hers, just rinse it again and you'll probably be alright.

That thing about your friend Sarah and the raw chicken actually changed how I see this. I used to be pretty paranoid about used kitchen stuff, thinking once it had food residue it was ruined. But hearing that she just washed the chicken and cooked it without getting sick kinda made me realize a good scrub with soap and hot water probably handles most of the risk. Your air fryer just has some leftover grease, not like it had raw meat sitting in it for days. I'd clean it again extra good and use it without worrying too much.
