Had to choose between a $50 generic water filter pack and the $25 name brand set from a different shop
Picked the name brand ones since I read the generics had a bad seal and ended up saving $25 on a pack that actually fits my faucet, anyone else find that generic kitchen stuff is a gamble?

Wait, you saved TWENTY FIVE bucks just by switching to the name brand? That's insane, the generics usually cost more. I tried one of those no-name water filter packs from a random Amazon seller once and the seal was so bad it shot water all over my counter. The name brand ones click in perfect every time, no leaks at all. It's like the cheap stuff is designed to fail just to make you mad. Good call on going with the ones that actually work.

Maybe the generics cut corners on the rubber seals to hit that lower price point.
