Got burned by a $60 'premium' HDMI cable deal on Amazon

Last month I grabbed a heavily discounted 4K HDMI cable that claimed gold plating and braided shielding, it was listed as 80% off from some brand I'd never heard of. Three weeks later the picture started flickering on my TV, and a normal $9 cable from Best Buy fixed it instantly. Why do these fake discount listings with inflated original prices never get taken down?

I see it completely the other way. The real problem isn't the fake discounts, it's that people expect a $9 cable to fail and a $60 cable to be better. HDMI is a digital signal. It either works or it doesn't. Gold plating and braided shielding do nothing for a 10 foot run in a normal house. Those cheap cables from Best Buy are made by the same factories as the expensive ones. The only real difference is the sticker on the box. Honestly, you got off lucky that it only cost you $60 to learn this lesson. The fake prices are annoying, sure, but they only work because we keep believing that more money means better picture. That's just not how digital cables work.
