Got burned trying to match a Market Basket sale price at Hannaford

I saw Market Basket had chicken thighs for $1.29 a pound last Friday so I drove to Hannaford in Concord thinking they'd price match like their ad says. The manager came over and told me they only match prices on identical items with the exact same packaging and Market Basket's family packs were different sizes. I ended up paying $2.49 a pound anyway because I was already there. Anyone else run into fine print on price matching that cost them?

Got a buddy who tried this at a Shaws in Manchester. He brought in a Walmart ad for a 12-pack of soda, some brand name. Shaws lady said their 12-packs are a different size. They're tall cans, not regular. He stood there arguing for ten minutes. Finally just bought the Walmart price soda at Walmart after wasting his time. He was so mad.

Ten minutes of arguing over soda cans at Shaws. That's a special kind of dedication right there, the kind that usually ends with the manager being called and the customer walking out empty handed. I bet his blood pressure was higher than the price difference between those two 12 packs. Should've just rolled in there with a tape measure to prove the cans are the same height, really win the argument on a technicality. Maybe next time he'll learn, or maybe he'll find a new hobby like arguing about the size of frozen pizzas.
