Scoffed at my buddy paying $15 for a mall walkthrough tour in Akron, then I tagged along
My friend Steve kept going on about a paid tour of the old Rolling Acres Mall in Akron for $15 a head, and I thought it was the dumbest thing I ever heard. You can just walk around dead malls for free, that is kind of the whole hobby. But I went with him on a Saturday in April and the guy running it pulled out old blueprints and showed us which anchor stores were built in phases, plus where the food court used to sit before the 2004 remodel. We stood in a spot that used to be a Kay-Bee Toys and he had a story about the last day it closed. So now I am torn, is paying for a guided tour silly when any of us can just drive there, or does that kind of info actually make the trip way better? Has anyone done one of these paid walkthroughs somewhere else and felt like it was worth it?
