Pro tip: I quit judging malls by the anchor stores now
For years I walked into a dying mall like Fair Oaks in Louisville and made my mind up the second I saw the empty Sears and the shuttered food court, then walked right back out. Last weekend I started shooting the small stuff instead, the 1987 tile mosaics by the old fountain, the hand painted sign over a dead Cinema 4, the cork board still full of employee schedules from 2009, and the place felt totally different. What little details do you shoot that nobody else seems to notice?
