The night my 2FA backup codes saved my whole setup, never felt so lucky

Last Thursday I was at a coffee shop in Austin and my phone just died, dead battery and no charger on me. I needed to log into my email for a work thing and my laptop was fine but the 2FA app was on my phone obviously. I almost panicked cause I thought I was locked out for good. Then I remembered I printed those backup codes like 6 months ago and stuck them in my wallet. Typed one in and got straight through. That was the single thing that kept me from being stuck for hours, maybe even losing a client. Now I tell everyone, print your codes and keep them somewhere physical, not just in a notes app. Has anyone else actually had to use their backup codes in a pinch?
