The morning Google authenticator saved my login chain

Last Wednesday I was fueling up at a Love's in Tennessee and got a notification about a login attempt on my email from a device in Brazil. I always thought those authenticator apps were just an extra step to slow you down. But that popup made me realize my password alone was never going to stop someone halfway across the world. Now I have 2FA on everything that offers it. Anyone else have a close call like that change your whole approach?
