The 7 AM phishing email that almost got me because it spoofed my own dentist
Last Tuesday I got an email at 7:02 AM from what looked exactly like my dentist's office in Sacramento, saying my appointment was canceled and I needed to click a link to reschedule. I was half asleep with coffee in hand and my thumb was literally on the link when I noticed the sender address had one extra letter in the domain name. That tiny detail is the only thing that stopped me. I called the actual office and the front desk girl said I was the third person that morning to call about it, so somebody got their patient list and was blasting everyone. What got me was how good the fake page looked, it even had the same logo and a fake login box asking for my insurance member ID. I reported it to the office manager and she said they were filing a report with the state attorney general. Has anyone else seen a spoof that copied a small business this closely, and did you have any luck getting the fake site taken down?
