Rant: my password system was a joke until my bank locked me out on a Tuesday
Used the same base password for 9 accounts with little tweaks like a 1 or a ! at the end, thought I was clever. Then a login alert from a site I hadn't touched in years popped up and I realized every one of those tweaks was guessable. If you've moved to a real manager, which one actually made you stop reusing stuff?
Remember when everyone wrote their passwords on a sticky note under the keyboard? My old office had a guy who kept his in a tiny notebook in his desk drawer, and we all laughed at him. Funny thing is, his accounts never got broken into, and mine did. The notebook was dumb but it worked, because he never reused the same password twice and nobody ever stole the book. I finally moved to a manager after my own lockout mess, mostly because I got tired of the guessing game every time a site wanted a new login. Sometimes the low tech habit beats the clever system you talk yourself into.
