Rant: everyone says use a password manager but nobody talks about the risks

I read a report from the Identity Theft Resource Center last month that said over 80% of data breaches in 2024 involved credential theft from password managers themselves. Not weak passwords, but the vaults got hacked. I still use one but it bugs me how the cybersecurity crowd acts like theyre bulletproof. Has anyone else looked into the actual breach stats for these services?

Oh come on, is it really that bad? I mean yeah, password managers get hacked sometimes, but so does everything else. The ITRC report you mentioned probably cherry picked the worst cases. Most of those "breaches" are just automated scans finding old unpatched servers, not actual vaults being cracked open. I've been using Bitwarden for years and never had an issue. Seems like people just like to panic over stats without context.

Yeah @janab82, you're probably right. Bitwarden has been solid for me too.
