Public wifi at a coffee shop exposed my whole email setup

I was editing a client contract at a Starbucks in Portland last Tuesday and hopped on their open network without thinking, then my password manager auto-filled my work login on a fake portal page. I only caught it because the URL had one extra letter and my browser flagged the certificate, so I yanked the laptop offline and changed every credential from my phone's hotspot. Has anyone else nearly gotten burned by a captive portal clone, and do you trust password managers to catch those or do you just avoid public wifi entirely?
