PSA: I used to reuse the same password for everything until a coworker at the sorting facility got phished last spring and lost access to their direct deposit info

Switched to a password manager after that mess, and now I just let it generate random 16 character strings for each site, has anyone else had a close call that finally made you change your ways?

jessicajohnson I get where you're coming from but the credential stuffing attacks are way more common than people realize. Had a neighbor who thought he was careful and used three different passwords for everything. One of those sites he barely used got breached and since he reused that password on his email account they had everything. Took him weeks to untangle it. A password manager like what @the_elliot mentioned handles that whole problem without having to remember 50 different passwords.

People really overblow how common these attacks are unless you're clicking on obvious scam links or giving info away yourself. Just use a few strong passwords and don't be stupid online, that's always worked fine for me. Most of these password managers are just another company trying to sell you something you don't need.

Used to think the same thing until my cousin got hit by a credential stuffing attack on a site he barely used. One reused password and they had his email, his bank, everything. Password manager saved his whole setup in about 20 minutes.
