I stopped using a password manager and went back to a paper notebook in my safe
Everyone at my office keeps pushing me to use a password manager, but last June I switched to a small notebook I keep locked in a safe at home in Dayton and I haven't had a single account compromised since. The one time a cloud manager got breached in 2023, a coworker spent 3 days resetting 40 logins, while my stuff sat untouched on paper. Has anyone else gone back to analog for their most important accounts, or am I just being paranoid?
Oh man, I did the exact same thing about two years ago and my friends still give me crap for it lol. The trick is to write the site names in a way only you would get, like "the bank we used for the house" instead of the actual name, so if someone ever finds the book it's useless to them. Also keep a second copy somewhere off site, like a sealed envelope at a family member's place, because a fire or flood will take out your safe and your passwords at the same time. That coworker story is exactly why I switched, one breach and you're locked out of everything at once. A notebook can't get hacked, it just can't.
