Hit 500 phishing emails in my personal inbox last year - changed how I think about passwords
I always thought I was safe because I never click random links. Then I checked my spam folder last month and counted 500 phishing attempts aimed at me in 2023 alone. That number shocked me. Most were pretending to be Amazon or my bank with fake order confirmations. I finally switched to a password manager after seeing how easy it is for scammers to get creative. How often do you guys actually check your spam folders for phishing patterns?

Wait, did that count include ones that actually made it past your spam filter too? Because that's a whole different scary number. Password managers are a game changer though, not just for creating strong passwords but also for spotting fakes since they won't autofill on a lookalike site. I started checking my spam folder every couple weeks after I found a really convincing PayPal scam in there, and now it's just a habit. One thing that helped me was turning on two factor on my email account itself, since that's the master key to everything else.

Oh yeah, that count absolutely includes the ones that made it through. I had a fake Amazon order confirmation sitting right in my main inbox last month. Looked dead on except the "from" address was like amaz0n-support dot something. Password managers are honestly the best thing for spotting those fakes since mine flat out refuses to fill in on anything that isn't the real site. Also 2FA on email is huge, I wish more people did that because once someone gets into your email they can just reset every password you have.
