Got hit with a fake virus alert while checking email at Starbucks

I was grabbing coffee at a Starbucks near the station last Tuesday and opened what looked like a support ticket from our IT team. The email had the right logo and everything, but it wanted me to download a file to update my credentials. I almost clicked the link until I noticed the reply-to address was some weird gmail account instead of our company domain. I flagged it to our security guy and he confirmed it was a phishing attempt targeting a few of us. Has anyone else seen these fake IT alerts that look way too real?

That wasn't really a fake virus alert though. Those emails are phishing attempts trying to steal your login info, not pretending to warn you about a virus on your computer.

Wait, so it's just phishing but not a virus alert at all?
