Honestly used to just glance at the URL bar and think that was enough... but these fake pages look so real now. The thing that finally clicked for me was checking for the little padlock icon AND the actual site name right next to it. A lot of the scams have a padlock but a weird, jumbled web address. Took getting a scary email that looked exactly like my bank to make me slow down and really look.

Forget the address bar for a second and actually right-click somewhere on the page. Choose "view page source". You'll get a wall of code, but just hit ctrl+f and search for "href". Scan those links. I caught a fake login page because all those "privacy policy" and "contact us" links at the bottom went to random gibberish addresses, not the real bank's site. The scammers only faked the main page but messed up the footer links.

So what's the trick? Is it checking the URL or something else?
