Found a random USB stick in the parking lot at Target last Tuesday

I almost plugged it into my laptop to see whose it was. Then I remembered that whole thing about baiting attacks from a security talk I went to like 2 years ago. Threw it in the trash instead. Has anyone else had to fight that urge to just 'help' by plugging in found drives?

Gotta disagree a bit here. Most random USB sticks are just lost by normal people like you and me, not some hacker planting bait in a Target lot. I've plugged in found drives before and it was just someone's old music files or school project.

Three out of four malicious USB attacks need someone to actually plug them in. You got lucky, but security researchers proved bait drops work way more often than people think.
