TIL a writer's notebook can kill a story before it starts
I went to a library exhibit in Portland last month about local authors. They had original drafts and notes out for viewing. What caught my attention was how many famous writers kept messy, chaotic notebooks. One author had weird doodles and a grocery list right next to a plot idea. It made me realize that my own clean, orderly outlines might be stifling my creativity. Has anyone else switched from detailed planning to messy freewriting and seen better stories come out of it?
