The fantasy novel I outlined for 6 months fell apart on page 3

I had this whole magic system mapped out with 12 types of stones and a 50 page history. But when I started writing last Tuesday, the main character just sat there doing nothing for two chapters. Has anyone else had a scene just refuse to work no matter how much you planned?

You mentioned your main character just sat there doing nothing for two chapters. Did you try giving them a small, simple problem to solve right away, something unrelated to the big magic system you built? I find that when I overplan the world but skip over what the person actually wants for breakfast, the story stalls.

Threw a cat on the page that needed to be fed. Suddenly the character had to deal with finding food and a dish, which led to figuring out where the kitchen was, which led to the magic system naturally. Works every time.
