The 400 page outline I trashed after one writing prompt thread

I spent 6 months building a massive outline for a fantasy novel, like 400 pages of worldbuilding and plot points. Then last Tuesday I joined a prompt thread about writing from a villain's perspective for 500 words. That little exercise exposed every clunky part of my story in about 20 minutes. I deleted the whole outline file and started fresh with just a character voice in mind. Has anyone else had a tiny prompt wreck their carefully planned manuscript? Or am I the only one who overthinks planning to death?
