Saw a prompt jar at a coffee shop in Boise and now I'm second-guessing the whole "random prompt" thing
Stopped at a place on 8th Street last week for a cold brew and there was a mason jar on the table with index cards, each one with a one-line prompt on it, and a sign that said take one, leave one. I pulled a card that said "write about a door that only opens for liars" and sat there for 20 minutes because it was weirdly perfect. But the cards other people left were stuff like "describe your favorite smell" and "what does home mean," which is fine but doesn't push you anywhere. So is a random pull better because it forces you into places you'd never pick, or is it worse because half the prompts are dead on arrival? Curious what you all think, do you go random or hand-pick when you're stuck.
