Paid $30 for a worldbuilding questionnaire and it wrecked my plot
I bought this fancy 40 page worldbuilding pack off Etsy last Tuesday because I thought it would make my fantasy setting feel real. Instead I spent 6 hours answering questions about tax policy in a fictional kingdom and now I have zero interest in writing the actual story. Has anyone else paid for a planning tool that ended up killing their momentum instead of helping it?

You bought a planning questionnaire, not a story generator. The whole point of those packs is to organize your world, not to make you fill out every boring detail. Tax policy in a fantasy kingdom is irrelevant unless your plot actually involves taxes or rebellion. Skip the stuff that doesn't matter. The best worldbuilding is the stuff that shows up in your scenes. You probably only needed maybe five or ten of those forty pages anyway. Most writers get way more from asking one good question about their main character's goal than a hundred facts about grain trade routes.
