One critique about my villain's motivation fixed my whole draft

A beta reader on the writing sub said my antagonist was just mean for the sake of being mean. She pointed out that his backstory had no connection to his present actions, so I went back and rewrote his flashback scenes. It took me two weekends, but I tied his fear of being abandoned to why he keeps sabotaging the hero's friendships. Now the conflict feels personal instead of random, and my critique group actually argued about whether he deserved redemption. Has anyone else had a single piece of feedback that forced a full rewrite of a character?

Ngl that fix sounds solid but you kinda buried the lead, the redemption debate is the real win here.
