A poetry teacher in Austin told our group to write the prompt wrong on purpose, and it fixed my stuck story
I've been stuck on the same short story prompt for about three weeks, just circling the drain on it. Then a poetry teacher named Dana at a workshop here in Austin said something that stuck with me, she told us to write the prompt wrong on purpose, like flip the character, the setting, even the ending. So I did that with my story and wrote the whole thing from the bad guy's point of view instead, and it just poured out in like 40 minutes. Now I'm wondering if anyone else does this on purpose, like messing up the prompt to get unstuck?
