TIL my crane's load indicator was reading 5% heavy for months
Found out during a routine calibration check last Tuesday. The guy running the test showed me the numbers on the spot. Had no idea I was running everything near the limit thinking I had more margin. Makes me wonder how many other guys are trusting their indicators without checking. How often do you all actually get yours tested?

Hold on, 5% heavy means you had less margin than you thought, not more.

You said "less margin than you thought, not more" and that's exactly what's bugging me. So @loganbaker, are you saying the 5% heavy actually means I started with a bigger error than I realized? Because I've been sitting here trying to figure out if I should adjust my target up or down and now I'm more confused than ever. Heavy means more weight, more material, more cost... so that should eat into my profit margin, right? But if I'm heavy and someone tells me it's only 5%, I might think that's a small thing I can fix later. When really it's a sign that my whole process is off. So I guess my real question is: is that 5% a warning light or just a little bump in the road?
