Spent $400 on a fancy laser level for my crane's outriggers and it was a total waste because the sun washed it out completely.

Has anyone found a reliable way to check level in bright conditions without just trusting the old bubble vials?

Old bubble vials" are actually the most reliable in sunlight.

Had that exact problem setting a fence line on a bright day. The old vial level just sat there and worked, no squinting at a dead screen. You can't argue with a bubble in a tube.

Heard a similar story from a buddy who runs a rigging crew. They bought a high end digital level for setting up on a white concrete pad in the summer. Said the screen was totally useless, just a shiny blank rectangle in the glare. They went back to their beat up old magnetic box levels with the vials right away. Sometimes the simple tool that just works is the one that doesn't need a battery or a screen you can't see.
