Showerthought: the new guys ask the load chart app instead of me now, and I get it
Honestly I was rigging a 6,000 lb HVAC unit onto a roof off Broadway last Tuesday and the kid on my crew pulled out his phone and had the chart up before I even finished walking the pick. Back when I started on a 40 ton grove in 2004 the chart was a laminated card in the cab and you memorized your radius or you looked dumb. Tbh I caught myself feeling some kind of way about it, like 19 years of knowing my boom got replaced by an app. But then it hit me, he still needs somebody to tell him the ground is soft and the tag line is wrong, the phone can't see the site. I told him to keep the app but walk the pick with me for a month first. Any of you older hands still keep a paper chart in the cab for backup, and do the young guys actually look at it?
