Serious question, had to pick between a 3 part line or a single line for a tricky lift in Spokane.

Last Tuesday I was setting a big AC unit on a roof downtown. The space was real tight, maybe 15 feet from the nearest building. My rigger wanted a 3 part line for the control, but I was looking at the chart and thinking a single line would get me the speed to beat the afternoon wind. I went with the single line... and man, it was a white knuckle ride for a second there. The load started to swing when a gust hit, and I had to fight the stick to keep it steady. Got it down safe, but my heart was pounding. The extra speed just wasn't worth the pucker factor in that spot. Anyone ever been in a similar bind with line choices in a cramped setup?

Oh man, that gut feeling is the worst. I had a job lifting a generator into a tiny backyard, fences on three sides. My chart said a two-part would be fine, but I almost went single for speed. Last second, I listened to my spotter and used the two-part. Good thing, because the load hung up on a tree branch we didn't see. That extra control let me inch it free without slamming into the fence. My hands were shaking after. Sometimes the book is right, but man, in the moment you just want to be done.

Ever had that gut feeling you should've listened?
