Rough terrain crane vs all-terrain crane on a muddy site in Vermont last week
We had a job up near Burlington where the ground was pure mud from all the rain. I brought my rough terrain crane and my buddy brought his all-terrain. His all-terrain got stuck twice and we had to pull it out with a dozer. My rough terrain walked right through it no problem. Ever had a situation where the wrong crane type cost you a whole day?

Wrong crane type cost you a whole day" - yep, been there. Rough terrain is king in mud, no contest. All-terrains just don't have the ground clearance or tire grip for deep slop.

You said "ground clearance or tire grip" - did you ever try running chains on the all-terrain before giving up on it for mud work?
