I finally noticed the difference on a 5-year-old crane hook inspection

We had this one hook on site in Phoenix that I've inspected a hundred times, never flagged it. Then last week I got the magnifying glass out on a hunch and saw micro-cracks around the throat, super subtle. The manufacturer told me it was from repetitive shock loads during that concrete pour marathon back in March. Has anyone else caught damage that only showed up after you switched to a brighter light or a different angle?

Bet that light trick works on wheel bearings too.
