My buddy swore I could sell sourdough starters for $20 each
Last fall a friend told me people are crazy for homemade sourdough and I could make bank selling starters for $20 a pop. I spent a whole weekend getting my starter super active, bought little mason jars and printed labels. Put an ad on Facebook marketplace and sold exactly two jars in three weeks to friends who never even used them. Turns out most people either want free starters or just buy bread from the store. Has anyone actually made decent money selling baking stuff from home or is it mostly a hobby that breaks even?

Right there with you. I thought I was gonna be the sourdough king of the neighborhood after that trend blew up. Ended up with a fridge full of starter that I was too attached to throw away but too annoyed to feed anymore. Sold three jars to my sister in law for "cost of materials" and another two to a guy who never came to pick them up. My starter now just takes up space in the back of the fridge like a sad, neglected pet rock.
