My $5 thrift store embroidery hoops vs. the $25 craft store ones... night and day
I picked up a bunch of old wooden hoops at Goodwill for $5 total, mostly because they had cool patina. My mom laughed and said they'd fall apart with any real use. Six months later, I've done three big pieces on them and they're still holding tight with zero warping. Meanwhile, my buddy spent $60 on new ones from Michaels and two already cracked. Anyone else find that older tools just work better for handcrafts?

Old wood was properly dried before milling, that's the difference nobody talks about.

Used to think it was just old growth wood being tighter grain. Never considered the drying process. Makes total sense now. They had time to let it sit and cure right, not just kiln rush everything.
