Chose homemade jam over selling baked goods and it paid off fast

When I started my cottage business I had to pick between making jam or selling cookies. I went with jam because it lasts longer and doesn't need to be fresh every day. My first batch was strawberry rhubarb from a local farm near me. I sold 12 jars at $8 each at a small market last month. It was way less stressful than baking every morning before work. Now I'm working on a peach recipe for summer. Has anyone else had better luck with preserves over baked stuff?

Oh wow I gotta disagree hard here. Baked goods blow jam out of the water for making real money fast. People will pay $4 for a single cookie and eat it before they leave the market, while jam sits there for weeks unsold. You only made $96 off 12 jars, I can make that in 2 hours with muffins and scones easy. Plus baking goods have way better margins if you buy flour and sugar in bulk, versus jam needing all that fruit and sugar that adds up quick. The stress of baking early is nothing compared to the stress of watching your jam get returned or thrown out because it went bad or molded after a few months. Baked stuff moves instantly and builds repeat customers who come back every week for freshness, jam people buy one jar and you never see them again.

It's just farmers market stuff though, is it really that deep?
