Update: I used to laugh at the 'birds aren't real' thing, but a drone crashed in my yard
For years I thought the whole 'birds are government drones' bit was just a funny meme. Then about three months ago, this weird looking 'bird' fell out of a tree into my garden in Charlotte. It was a small, light gray thing, but when I picked it up, it was way too heavy and had a tiny broken lens where an eye should be. I took it apart and found a microchip and a battery pack, no bones or anything. I showed it to my friend who works in electronics, and he just said 'yep, that's a surveillance drone, a cheap one.' I felt my stomach drop. I still don't think all birds are fake, but now I'm convinced some definitely are. Has anyone else found something like this, or am I just losing it?

Okay but has anyone checked the squirrels lately? My neighbor's "cat" brought one in last week and it had a weird little port under its tail. Looked like a charging socket. Maybe they're testing different models.

Charlotte has a huge tech sector and a major airport. You probably just found a hobbyist drone that got lost. The government wouldn't use cheap parts that break in a tree.
