Traffic cone theory fell apart for me last night at the 4-way stop near my house

I live by a four way stop that people treat like a free for all after 9 PM. Read online that putting a traffic cone in the road makes people slow down and actually stop. Tried it at 10 PM. First car swerved around it, second car ran it over, third car got out and threw it in a ditch. So much for that conspiracy. Anybody else had a "simple fix" backfire completely?

Did your neighbors leave protest notes on your car like mine did?

Oh, did they really leave notes? That's so awkward. What worked for me was I just started being super nice to them every time I saw them in the driveway. Like, I'd wave real big and ask about their day. Eventually they stopped being weird about it because they couldn't keep up the hostile vibe when I was being all friendly lol.
