The week all my lights went out in August, was it a test or just bad luck?

So this happened about 2 months ago in Austin. I had a stretch where literally everything electronic in my apartment died in 5 days. Tuesday the fridge compressor gave up, Thursday my laptop screen went black, Saturday my phone charger port stopped working, and Sunday my car battery did the same. That's 4 failures in 6 days, which statistically feels impossible. My buddy says it's just normal entropy, but my cousin swears someone or something was messing with the grid, like a localized EMP or a smart meter experiment. I didn't see any weird vans or hear buzzing, but the timing was too perfect to ignore. Has anyone had a cluster of tech failures like this and chalked it up to coincidence, or do you lean toward some kind of targeted interference?

Oh man, that really sucks, I feel for you. I had a similar thing happen back in 2019 when my dryer, router, and coffee maker all died within a week, and I remember just standing in my kitchen wondering what I did to deserve it. It's crazy how our brains try to find a pattern when random stuff piles up like that, but I also totally get the urge to blame something bigger. I still have no idea if mine was just bad luck or some weird electrical surge, but it's honestly exhausting either way.
