The 2019 Subaru headlight on my buddy's car turned yellow in 4 months flat
He parks outside in Phoenix, so I figured sun damage, but the passenger side stayed crystal clear the whole time. Turns out the driver side was a cheap aftermarket replacement from a fender bender, is that a common insurance scam trick or just bad luck?

You said the driver side was a cheap aftermarket replacement from a fender bender, but did your buddy actually pick that part himself or did the shop just throw it in? Because that's the part that smells like a setup. I've seen shops quote OEM parts, charge for them, then slap on the cheapest aftermarket junk they can find and pocket the difference. The fact that the passenger side stayed clear makes me think the driver side lens wasn't even UV coated right from the start. So was it the insurance company's approved shop or did he take it somewhere random to save a few bucks?
