My uncle in Reno swore the moon landing was faked, then asked me to fix his satellite dish
He spent 45 minutes on his flat roof theory at Thanksgiving 2023, then couldn't get NASA's channel because his dish was pointed at a tree. How do you debate someone who trusts a guy from a podcast but not the guy holding the ladder?
The thing that bugs me about this is how fast people believe a podcast guy over someone standing right there. I used to figure both sides were just being stubborn and there was no point arguing. What changed my mind was reading about how you can't really debate a belief like that with facts, because it's not about facts for them. The moon landing thing is really about not trusting the government, so showing them a NASA photo just makes them dig in more. These days I'd skip the debate and just help with the dish, because getting the guy his channel back does more than winning an argument ever will.
