My $40 EVP recorder picked up my neighbor's ham radio, not ghosts

I dropped cash on a decent digital recorder for a paranormal investigation near the old mill in Ohio, and the voices everyone swore were spirits turned out to be someone's 2-meter repeater bleeding through, has anyone else had gear pick up mundane signals that wrecked their evidence?

$40 and it picked up someone's ham radio over actual ghost voices? That's wild, man. I've had my recorder catch a police scanner once during a cemetery session, but at least I knew it was a scanner. Getting a whole repeater with two-way traffic would've had me convinced I hit the paranormal jackpot, then I'd just be mad I paid for tech that's basically a fancy radio tuner. Did you play it back for the team and see their faces drop when they realized it was just some dude talking about his antenna setup?
