Tried power troweling with a dirty blade and it ruined the finish

So I had a 30 yard slab at a warehouse in Phoenix last Thursday and got lazy about cleaning my trowel blades between pours. Figured a little dried mud wouldn't matter much. Big mistake - it left swirl marks all over the surface that took forever to grind out with a hand grinder. Has anyone else had a similar issue with dirty blades messing up a pan finish?

Oh come on, how dirty could your blades have really been? A little dried mud should burn off or just get knocked loose, I bet your issue was more about your speed or the concrete being too hard when you started troweling.

Dried mud on blades is a real problem though. Once it hardens, it acts like little rocks grinding into the surface and leaves those drag marks no matter how fast you go. Concrete that's too stiff makes it worse, sure, but a clean blade is half the battle on any job.
