Thought stamped broom finish was for sidewalks only until a finisher in Gary set me straight
I used to skip the broom on driveways and patios, figured it looked cheap and everyone wants smooth. Last Tuesday I was pouring a 12 by 20 slab in Gary and an old finisher named Ray watched me float it and asked if I liked writing checks for slip claims. He pointed at his truck bumper which has a sticker saying "smooth today, lawsuit tomorrow" and explained how wet broom lines add real grip even on flat work. I tried a soft broom pass on the last 8 feet of that pour and the homeowner actually asked why it looked more finished. Now I'm wondering if I've been leaving grip off my patio jobs for no good reason, so how do you all decide when to broom and when to leave it slick?
