Just realized a wet cure blanket actually made a difference on my last 50 yard pour in Phoenix
I always figured it was overkill but the slab came out way smoother with zero cracking compared to just spraying it down, has anyone else noticed that big of a difference?

Wait you actually did a 50 yard pour with just spraying it down before? That is insane to me. I've seen guys try that on smaller residential stuff and it always ends up looking like a checkerboard. The wet cure blanket is non-negotiable for anything over 10 yards in this heat, I don't care what the old timers say. Phoenix sun just sucks the moisture right out before the concrete even has a chance to set up properly. You must have been sweating bullets every time you walked away from that slab.

Go ahead and use the wet cure blanket if that's what works for you, but I've done plenty of 40 and 50 yard pours without one and they turned out fine. The trick is timing the spray down right - hit it as soon as the bleed water evaporates, then keep at it every 20 minutes or so until the initial set. I worked a job in Mesa last August, 95 degrees and dry as a bone, did a 45 yard driveway that way and not a single crack in the finish. Old timers aren't always wrong.
