I was bull floating way too early for years and didn't know it.
I was finishing a big garage floor in Mesa last month and the bleed water was still pooling. My old boss always said to get on it fast, so I did. The guy running the pump truck saw me and just said, 'You're making it mad.' That stuck with me. I waited another twenty minutes and the finish came out smooth as glass. How do you guys judge the right time to start floating?

Ever notice how rushing things usually makes them worse?

Yeah, that pump truck guy was right. I used to rush it too, watching for the shine to fade but not waiting for the water to soak back in all the way. Now I go by the footprints. If I step on it and water doesn't rush back into my boot print right away, that's my signal. It made a huge difference in how flat the final set is. What's the biggest thing that changed your timing?
