I tried a cheap plastic form release agent on a driveway pour last Wednesday
Grabbed some off-brand stuff from the supply house in Akron. Figured it was all the same. Ended up with the concrete sticking to the forms in three spots. Had to chip it out with a hammer and chisel for an hour. Anybody got a brand they swear by that won't break the bank?

Your mileage may vary but I found that any petroleum based release agent works fine if you actually stir it first. That cheap stuff probably had the silicone settled at the bottom of the pail.

That whole "stir it first" thing reminds me, I once spent an afternoon trying to figure out why my mold release was acting weird and @vera_lewis is totally right - I shook the bucket for like five minutes and it was night and day different. Sometimes you just gotta trust the process, you know?
