I finally figured out what caused my slab to heave last spring
We had a late frost after I poured a garage floor without enough insulation underneath. The ground froze and pushed the concrete up in one corner. It cost me a full day to break out and repour that section. Always check the frost line and use proper base materials in cold weather.

Honestly, I used to think frost heave was just bad luck or something. Reading about your full day of repair work really changed my mind on that. I mean, proper base materials are no joke in cold weather.

That late frost depth can exceed four feet in some regions, not just the base.

I remember our pipes freezing solid that one winter... burst right in the basement.
