A foreman in Tulsa bet me $50 I couldn't finish a slab without a power trowel, and I proved him wrong
He swore up and down that hand finishing a 1,200 sq ft warehouse slab would take me twice as long and look like garbage. I used a 4 ft magnesium float and a wood hand float, worked it in 10 ft sections, and finished in 6 hours with a finish he admitted was smoother than his machine job. What I learned is that power trowels can burn a slab if you're not careful with timing, and on smaller pours the hand work gives you way more control over the cream. Anyone else here prefer hand tools on anything under 1,500 sq ft, or am I just old school?
