Warning: I spent 3 months in Denver standing on the wrong side of the escalator before someone corrected me
I always stood on the left side on the light rail escalator and got annoyed when people pushed past me, then this guy in a suit tapped my shoulder and said "standing on the right, passing on the left" like I should've known. Has anyone else had a commute habit you picked up that turned out to be totally backward?

@wright.taylor I learned that same rule after an angry lady in a gray coat yelled at me on the DC metro escalator.

The "standing on the right, passing on the left" thing is wild because I just assumed it was common knowledge everywhere. I moved from a small town where nobody uses escalators like that so I was the person standing in the middle blocking everyone for weeks. But honestly the thing that got me was learning that you're supposed to face forward on the escalator. I always used to stand sideways and lean on the handrail and people would give me dirty looks. I guess I just never paid attention to the unspoken rules of public transit.
