Two buses home from the Loop, and I picked the wrong one at 11pm

Last Friday I got off work late in Chicago and had to pick between the 9pm express bus that drops me 4 blocks from my apartment or the local that stops right at my corner. I went with the local since it was cold and raining, but it took 52 minutes instead of 20 because of a stalled car on Ashland. The driver kept announcing delays and half the people on board were dozing off. Now I'm wondering if the extra 3 block walk in the rain would've been worth it. Has anyone else done the math on express versus local when it's late and nasty out?
